Planning the perfect date night can sometimes feel like a daunting task, especially if you’re looking for something unique and memorable. If you find yourself in Pittsburgh’s North Hills area (northern suburbs not far from downtown), you’re in luck! Just a short drive from downtown, you’ll find delicious restaurants, scenic parks, and entertainment that promise to make your evening or day date special. Here are some of our picks for some fantastic date night ideas:

Discovering Culinary Delights

North Park Lounge: A favorite among locals for its laid-back atmosphere, extensive beer selection, and delicious pub fare, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed yet enjoyable evening. This would be the perfect casual date or even just a stop for apps before hitting up a movie.

Off the Hook: Known for its innovative seafood creations in an intimate setting, this restaurant promises a memorable dining experience. Perfect for those hoping for a more upscale date night. They also have tasty desserts made fresh daily.

Nicky’s Thai Kitchen: Celebrated for its authentic Thai cuisine and inviting outdoor dining area, Nicky’s is ideal for those craving bold flavors and a cozy atmosphere.

Aviva Brick Oven: If you’re a pizza aficionado, Aviva is a must-visit, offering delectable pizzas made with fresh ingredients and served in a charming setting that’s perfect for lunch or dinner. If pizza isn’t your thing they also offer a wide variety of pastas and salads.

II Pizzaiolo: Combining a top-notch dining atmosphere with exquisite food, II Pizzaiolo offers personalized wine selections to complement your meal perfectly. We also get the meatballs when we go.

Coughlin’s Law Kitchen and Brew Pub: Recently expanding to the North Hills from Mt. Washington, Coughlin’s Law offers a warm, inviting environment with an extensive menu of craft brews and flavorful dishes. We went on Mother’s Day and they even had a special menu for brunch.

202 Hometown Tacos: This is more for the laid-back date. Grab some delicious tacos, and margs and enjoy a night listening to music on their back patio.

Franklin Inn: Another great option for those that like tacos and margaritas.

Mambo Italia: Eric dubs them the best Italian in Pittsburgh. We went there for the first time for our 7th Anniversary and we will likely be back MANY times. It is small, so I’d recommend a reservation. (quick note – it’s also BYOA and there is a fee) We even met the owner at his other restaurant 424 Walnut; he came over to talk with us and ended up giving us a dessert on the house for our anniversary!

Enjoying Leisure Activities

Catch a Movie at Cinemark North Hills and XD: This is a fairly new theater with plush reclining seats and state-of-the-art sound systems; not to mention a bar. My favorite part of any movie is always the popcorn!

Explore Hartwood Acres Park: For an outdoor adventure, explore scenic trails that lead to the historic Hartwood Mansion, or attend a summer concert. Not to mention that Hartwood is also a beautiful backdrop for some couples pictures…you know you don’t have any recent ones! The Bainbridge Studio is always my go-to photographer.

Explore North Park: You can rent a kayak or paddleboat on those nice summer days, or explore their many trails and walking paths. If you’re planning a date in the winter you can go ice skating at their Ice Rink or rent one of the few indoor facilities.

Wine Tasting at Narcisi Winery: Indulge in a tasting of locally produced wines amid picturesque vineyards, accompanied by a meal at the winery’s onsite restaurant. They have an awesome outdoor space and they often play live music. Did I mention they have wine?

Bowling at Pines Plaza Lanes: Bowling is something I feel like people forget about, but it’s always a great time! This is an old-school bowling alley with a fun retro vibe.

Relax at a Local Brewery: Sample craft beers at cozy spots like Big Sewickley Creek Brewery (great in the summer or winter; they have blankets, heaters, and roaring fires) or Union Brothers Brewing, perfect for a casual yet enjoyable night out. We’ve also heard great things about ShuBrew and Lincoln Avenue Brewery.

Savor Wine and Cheese at Soergel Orchards: Create your own picnic with locally produced wines and gourmet cheeses, perfect for a romantic evening under the stars. You can also head out for some day time activities like strawberry picking and sampling their ciders.

Indulge in Sweet Treats at Custard’s First Stand: Whether it’s for a pre-dinner treat or a delightful ending to your night, Custard’s offers some of the best soft serve around. I always get the pecan ball sundae and Eric loves the ice cream sandwiches.

Have a Fun Night at Dave & Buster’s: Enjoy a lively evening of arcade games and great food, ideal for a playful and entertaining date night. They also have really great drinks!

Explore Sewickley Village: Take a leisurely stroll through this charming village filled with boutique shops, art galleries, and quaint cafes—perfect for a post-dinner wander.

Get out and Have a Great Time!

Eric and I have tried to make an effort to go on at least one date a month. This gives us time for us; and that’s so important in a relationship. So, I urge you to do the same!

Whether you prefer a cozy dinner for two, an outdoor adventure, or a night of games and entertainment, Pittsburgh’s North Hills area offers a diverse array of options to suit every couple’s taste. Enjoy your time exploring the area, and making those memories.
