If you haven’t noticed already, I love the holidays! In this house we bake, craft, and dress for pretty much every holiday; Thanksgiving is no exception. Crafting is a simple and fun way to get kids excited about the holidays.

Craft Ideas with Things we Already have at Home

Cereal Box Turkey

Materials:

  • Cereal box
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes
  • Construction paper
  • Feathers – If you don’t have feathers on hand, simply cut feather shapes out of different colored construction paper
  • Glue
  • Optional – pipe cleaner

Directions:

  1. Cut the turkey’s body out from a cereal box
  2. Add googly eyes
  3. Cut small piece out of orange construction paper for beak
  4. Cut small piece out of red construction paper for wattle
  5. Glue feathers to the back, so they show around the turkey body
  6. Optional – use the pipe cleaners to give your turkey legs

You can also change it up, by using a small piece of wood for the body! We have some wood pieces laying around from Graham’s first birthday, so I decided to repurpose it for Thanksgiving decoration. The only thing we did different when constructing the turkey on the wood, was use wood glue for all of the pieces.

Thankful Tree

Great way to display why we are so thankful, and teach children gratitude. This also doubles as decor!

Materials:

  • Stick
  • Hot glue/Hot glue gun
  • Construction paper
  • Marker

Directions:

  1. Grab a stick from outside
  2. Cut construction paper into leaf shapes
  3. Write things you are thankful for on each leaf
  4. Glue the leaves onto the stick
  5. Once the glue is dry, you can place the stick into a vase, glass, or pot. Dress it up by adding vase filler or rocks around the base of the stick

Paper Plate Pumpkin Pie

Leave as a whole pie, or cut into slices – let kids cut it out, for some fine motor work!

Materials:

  • Paper plate
  • Orange paint or markers
  • Brown paint or markers
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue

Directions:

  1. Color/paint the middle of the plate orange
  2. Color/paint the rim of the plate brown
  3. Glue down cotton balls; in the middle of the plate or cut into slices and put on the middle of each slice

Paper Plate Wreath

Does your child like to collect leaves? Display them for the holidays as a super easy wreath.

Materials:

  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Leaves
  • Glue

Directions:

  1. Cut middle out of paper plate, leaving only the rim
  2. Glue leaves to the rim of the plate
  3. Let dry
  4. You can add a piece of string if you want to hang it
