It has been one year, since we completed Graham’s “Big Boy” room! He was so excited for his new bed and his Nugget couch. Still not sure if he even noticed anything passed those two things at first. We decorated his nursery in a dinosaur theme, so we stuck with it to use the same decor in his new room.

I loved the idea of painting his walls a dark blue color, but we were worried it would make the room seem dark. We left the ceiling white, and decided on a white accent wall, to help keep the space bright. I love the way the blue walls look in this room, and I am so glad we took the plunge for the dark color!

Toy Storage

Graham has an insane amount of stuffed animals and other toys. Eric gave Graham his old toy box (such a special piece in his room), but it could only hold so much. We decided to get a corner toy net on Amazon and it worked great for this space. (As an Amazon Associate, Simply Secen earns from qualifying purchases. This post contains affiliate links. Graham’s Bed

We knew we wanted to have another baby in the near future, so instead of converting Graham’s crib into a toddler bed, we decided to build him a new bed. After looking at different options, we chose to go with a simple floor bed. Eric details how to create your own floor bed here.

Dresser

We were gifted an IKEA dresser, that we refinished to match Graham’s floor bed. The refinishing process was super easy and gave us something that fit the space a little better. If you’re interested in refinishing your own dresser, I’ve detailed instructions here.

Graham’s Reading Area

Graham loves to read, so we knew that we wanted to make a special place for him to read in this new room. We contemplated refinishing his old bookcase from his nursery, but we decided against it so we could use it as a matching set with the crib….that we ending up refinishing anyway for Audri’s room!

I saw these shelves that I absolutely fell in love with on Pinterest, so Eric created them for me (directions here). To tie them into the rest of the furniture, we used the same stain as the floor bed and the dresser. I absolutely love them! To make this space even better, we ordered Graham the Nugget couch that I have been eyeing for months. It was the perfect addition to his reading space. We also love that it can function not only as a place to read, but a jungle gym, an obstacle course, a fort, and most recently a shark cage.

Graham’s room was a labor of love, and the end result is perfect!
